2023 NFL salary cap tracker: Where all 32 teams stand in June

Now that June is upon us, the NFL salary cap situations for several teams have changed. Those who designated veterans post-June 1 cuts, have created a ton of cap room with a nice number of big names still on the NFL free agent market.

We’ll look at the teams with the most cap room at any given point as everything happens in live time.

Best NFL salary cap situations

Chicago Bears

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports
  • Chicago Bears salary cap room: $32.48 million
  • Chicago Bears free agent additions: Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, DeMarcus Walker, Nate Davis, Travis Homer

The acquisition of Pro Bowl receiver D.J. Moore in the blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers will count north of $20 million against the cap. It’s certainly a bounty the Bears were willing to pay given their need at wide receiver.

Now that we’re entering the summer months, Chicago is said to be focused on adding a veteran edge rusher to the mix. Frank Clark, Jadeveon Clowney and Rober Quinn are three names to watch on this front.

Carolina Panthers

  • Carolina Panthers salary cap room: $27.94 million
  • Carolina Panthers free agent additions: Adam Thielen, Miles Sanders, Vonn Bell, Hayden Hurst, Shy Tuttle, Andy Dalton, DJ Chark

In addition to acquiring the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (former Alabama QB Bryce Young), general manager Scott Fitterer went to work during the early stages of NFL free agency. That included bringing in four skill-position players for Young.

The question here is what Carolina does with its remaining room under the NFL salary cap. The team could very well opt to have a lot of it extend to next offseason, especially given the talent pool that’s remaining in free agency.

Arizona Cardinals

  • Arizona Cardinals salary cap room: $26.67 million
  • Arizona Cardinals free agent additions: Kyzir White, Zach Pascal, Dennis Daley

Arizona is highly unlikely to spend much of its remaining room under the NFL salary cap to sign players ahead of Week 1. The team is prepared to tank for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, or so it seems. What we’ve seen this offseason doesn’t lend credence to the idea that the Cards are looking to contend in 2023. It’s that simple.

New York Jets

Chris Pedota, NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK
  • New York jets salary cap room: $24.79 million
  • New York Jets free agent additions: Aaron Rodgers (trade), Allen Lazard, Wes Schweitzer, Mecole Hardman, Quinton Jefferson, Randall Cobb, Billy Turner

Obviously, the blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers changes the dynamics for New York heading into 2023. The Jets are in win-now mode and expect to compete for a conference title. This leads us to believe that they’ll continue to be active in free agency leading up to training camp.

The likes of edge rushers Jadeveon Clowney and Frank Clark will be likely targets. We also wouldn’t be surprised if New York kicked the tires on running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Kareem Hunt.
